A Subtle Thief of Youth  

This town is both a home and a trap.
A source of identity and a site of constraint.

The people remain;  
of choice, because leaving requires resources, confidence, or luck they don't yet possess.  

The cost of remaining;
friendships that spiral into dysfunction, family ties that both sustain and bind, dreams that calcify into resignation.

Reckoning with my own escape;
and the guilt, or privilege, or simple fortune that enabled it.

This town emptied of opportunity is never emptied of meaning.
